how to retrive username & password

this is something funny.

i installed BL4 then i forgot the user name & password that i used. since bl4 has no root login how could i retrive the UN & PW.

could somebody help me. tnx

yeah, that is also my problem. right now i can't use BL coz BL "seems" not to recall my username nor my password. hope somebody will help us

1) if at least you can remember your root password then you can login at the command prompt as root then add a new user
2) or check your caps lock key if toggled on (cuz sometimes this happens accidentally), this entry is case sensitive

Here are the steps in recovering your root account: (be careful in doing this)

    at the grub prompt edit the recovery option at the kernel line and add init=/bin/bash then continue to boot up.

    at the shell type this:

    mount -n -o remount,rw /

    Then type this:

    mount -avt nonfs,noproc,nosmbfs

    Then edit /etc/shadow

    delete the txt between the 1st 2 colons of the "root" account

    Save then reboot


You wont need a root password to login as root.

IMPORTANT: Edit /etc/shadow with care.
